Alcock Road Reserve
Design Intent
The dog park was designed by Wyndham City Council’s in house Landscape Architect Caitlin Riseborough. Her vision was to utilise an unused portion of a busy site to create a fenced dog off leash park that would function for a variety of users and offer a long term well maintained landscape as well as a dog park. This was achieved by creating two separate irrigated lawn areas, separated by a large gravel space that included dog agility equipment and seating areas for owners. A series of garden beds with native planting and Trees was introduced to offer a future sustainable landscape and a series of entry paths, hob walls and airlock gates created practical access into the dog off leash park, regardless of inclement weather events.
Project Delivery and Outcome
Melbourne Landscape Group was able to deliver Caitlin’s design intent within a short time frame and to a standard that was very well received by Wyndham City Council. We worked through some challenging level changes at the entry points to the site to avoid steps and make the dog park accessible for all abilities, The insitu concrete hob walls have complemented a smart design within the fenced off area. Due to the site’s topography and siting, the environmental sensitivity had to be managed with specific consideration to dust suppression, existing tree protection and silt control. MLG managed some inclement weather events during construction and were able to avoid delay or disruption to residents or local roads throughout the delivery. Our ongoing maintenance of the site after completion, allowed the grass and plants to establish and the site to be robust for future seasons and heavy use. Overall, the project successfully enhanced the space and was well received by WCC and the local community.
