Sol Green Reserve
Design Intent
The Sol Green Reserve upgrade was designed by Beveridge Williams with the intention to upgrade a much loved space that had many elements nearing the end of their functional life. The well thought out design includes a full size structural multi sports court, playground for ages 5 + large open space grass areas, public lighting and extensive drainage throughout. The use of natural timbers, structural elements and sustainable products, all designed to fit within existing infrastructure, utilises all areas of the site and offers a variety of uses for the community.
Project Delivery and Outcome
The Sol Green Reserve upgrade came with a level of complexity in that we were dealing with detailed and extensive excavation for new services, structural elements and landscape treatments on a site that had identified contaminated soils and was surrounded by large heritage trees. The site was strictly managed in accordance with a SEMP, there was approximately 500tonne of contaminated material excavated and correctly disposed off site. All new treatments had capping layers and specific treatments to suit a previously prepared site contamination management plan. Melbourne Landcape Group considered our access, construction methodology and scheduling of works to suit consultant and stakeholder requirements on a high profile site. During the delivery of the project, we worked closely with City of Port Phillip and their design consultants, along with nominated and preferred manufactures, suppliers, contractors to meet a specific handover date. The quality of treatments and transparent approach throughout the project was well received by our client. We are extremely happy with the outcome and hope that the space can be enjoyed for many years to come.
