Cliff Whitworth Reserve Dog Park Off Leash
Design Intent
Cliff Whitworth Dog Off Leash Park was Partially grant funded and designed on a parcel of land that has shared access to a power authority power station. The natural topography of the land was utilised by benching the agility area into the base of the hill, allowing cut and fill works to construct a more level lawn area above. The design incorporates a mix of gravel and lawn surfacing, agility equipment for the larger dogs and plenty of dedicated seating for owners to relax. The entire area is surrounded by varying heights of black chainlink fencing and concrete access paths, allowing all weather use of the dog park.
Project Delivery and Outcome
During the inception stage of the project, it was evident that parking and site access for construction needed to be well planned and communicated. The site sits within a residential street adjacent to a high school. Access times needed to be coordinated outside of school bus timetables and drop off / pick up. The proposed design also needed to be considered here to ensure we did not build ourselves out of the site. We coordinated our cut and fill works to allow for parking and lay down areas within the construction area to avoid any disturbance to school traffic and local residents. The project attracted a lot of local community attention which was very positive. Melbourne Landscape Group had the pleasure of an extended maintenance program on the site, which allowed us to ensure the extensive native planting and canopy trees were established well and would no doubt achieve their intended growth habits, purpose around the site. Overall, the project was a successful example of how good collaboration and communication with Moonee Valley City Council’s representative, ensured delivery of the design intent and added positively to the local community.
